Who am I today?

"Who am I today"? I ask
and I wonder if I'll ever know;
I know the past has shaped me now,
Though the past was long ago.
The little moments form a blur,
The times both happy and sad,
All the people I once knew,
And the things I used to have.
They all helped me to become
Where, what and who I am now,
And everything has influenced me
Though I'm not sure exactly how.
But I'm thankful for the memories,
From everyone I've ever met -
People I miss and people I love,
Even people I'd like to forget.
For these memories have helped me grow,
They've made me calm , yet strong,
And now there's a story to my life,
That they've been writing all along.
So,thank you for the memories,
Without them , who would I be ?-
Because somewhere in my memories
Are the things that define me.

garam masala

i love to use garam masala in almost everything i make....it gives wonderful flavour and aroma to food.....you do get garam masala readymade in stores but i feel my mom makes it the best....giving u my mom's recipe of garam masala...its not too complex and u can make some n store it for a long time it doesnt get spoilt or anything...so once its ready u just have to sprinkle a dash of it for amazing food

ingredients : (clockwise)
small elaichi (cardomom) ,laving (cloves),samudraphul , big elaichi ,black pepper , taj (cinnamon), avantri javantri ,tej patta ,dagad phul

method :
all the ingredients have to be taken in equal proportion and roasted very lightly separately (just to remove the moisture) and then grind to make powder....

dont know english names of each of the spice....those of my cousins abroad m sure in indian grocery store u ll get these spices even if u say indian names...

once u use it u ll get addicted to it...n u ll use it in everything u make n hear lots of compliments for ur wonderful cooking ;)
hope u all enjoy using it as much as i do...happy cooking :)

basic gravy...

this is the basic gravy.....its quite a simple one...and once u make this gravy perfectly you can cook lots of dishes like pav bhaji , rajma, chole, biryani ,pizza , macroni ,bharta n lots more...
will share all these recipes from time to time...

ingredients:
  • 1 large onion (or 2 medium sized) finely chopped
  • 2 large tomato (or 3 medium sized) finely chopped
  • dry masala : 1 teaspoon red chilly powder ,1/2 teaspoon turmeric (haldi) ,2 teaspoon dhaniya jeera powder (coriander seed and cumin powder)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon green chilly and ginger paste
  • 3-4 pods of garlic crushed
  • 2 tablespoon cooking oil
  • salt to taste
method :
saute finely chopped onion in oil in a pan...
add green chilly and ginger paste and garlic paste to the onions once the onions appear transparent...
once the onions r cooked add the all the dry masala to onions except garam masala...
once the masala is cooked add tomatoes to onions..add salt in proportion to the gravy...

mix whatever else has to be mixed depending on what you are making
sprinkle garam masala last (just before switching off the flame)..

relationship

I want my family to love me for what I m and not what I do

So said james marsden…m sure very few know him…he is an actor and he said the above words when asked about what his children felt about he being an actor…

I just connected with this words….and that’s what I want from the man who will be my husband whoever he is……..that he choose me for what I am….what rhythm is….and not for anything else…had read somewhere “many a man in love with a dimple makes the mistake of marrying the whole girl” I certainly don’t want that to happen with me….he better be able to see within my mind and heart n not just the surface…

Somewhere I read “u don’t fix a man like a leak in the roof ….you accept him as he is or you don’t accept him at all “ had read it in one of the novels…this was the advice given by a dad to his daughter in the book…..this is so true….we should be able to accept the man or woman in our lives just as they are…..

in all the other relationships we do this…be it brother sister…child parent…between friends….our love does not change for the person….and nor do we expect the individual to change….we don’t have any preconditions……sure we tell what we want them to do….but if they don’t do our love does not change….we love the person as they are…for what they are…inspite what they are…

this is what we shd try to achieve in husband wife / girlfriend boyfriend relationship too…after all there must have been something in that person that you liked enough to choose him /her as your life partner…and when u chose him /her u didn’t think if this n this cud be changed it wud be perfect….or there r minor problems which I m ready overlook………when u chose the person coz u cud not imagine life without him /her….so then if the person is that good that u could not live without him , when he is in your life why do we not see the positives instead we bang our heads against wall in trying to change minor stuff…coz had there been major incompatibilities u wud not have chosen him only na….or u start doubting your own intelligence once the person is in your life in choosing him as life partner ???

In short all m trying to say is appreciate the person in your life for all the good things in that person….the minor flaws will take care of themselves……n even if they dont heck they are MINOR right :)

nutrella pulav

this one is for u palakdidi.....

ingredients :
  • 1 medium bowl rice
  • 1 medium bowl soya chunks (nutrella)
  • 1 large onion (or 2 medium sized) finely chopped
  • 1 large tomato (or 2 medium sized) finely chopped
  • dry masala : 1 teaspoon red chilly powder ,1/2 teaspoon turmeric (haldi) ,2 teaspoon dhaniya jeera powder (coriander seed and cumin powder)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon green chilly and ginger paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 2 tablespoon cooking oil
  • salt to taste
method :
semiboil soya chunks..add salt to it while its boiling..throw away the water..(or use it to cook rice later)
on the other burner in a pressure cooker saute finely chopped onion in oil..
add green chilly and ginger paste and garlic paste to the onions once the onions appear transparent...
once the onions r cooked add the all the dry masala to onions except garam masala...
once the masala is cooked add tomatoes to onions..add salt in proportion to the gravy.
add the semiboiled soya chunks to the gravy....add garam masala at this stage..
after 2 min of letting the chunks simmer in the gravy add rice to the gravy...add salt again in proportion to rice..

add water such that wen u dip ur finger in (any finger) it water level should reach the first line on ur finger...thats the measurement for cooking rice anytime....this is imp as if the water is more or less than this the rice will either get over cooked or undercooked..

then just shut the lid of pressure cooker...and let it cook til it gives one whistle...
cook it on medium flame...not too large flame..
once cooked wait for cooker to cool down then open it n enjoy delicious pulav
